Why Help Ukraine

Stand With Ukraine was created with the hope to inspire people to help Ukraine. Many people are helping Ukraine in different ways, some companies are pulling their business out of Russia, other companies are donating supplies to Ukrainian soldiers and refugees. This is a great help, but more still needs to be done. Ukraine is already suffering from the infliction of genocide on its innocent people, its helpless children, men, women, and babies, and it is only a matter of time before Russia goes further. This is what President Zelenskyy of Ukraine keeps telling everybody, but nobody will listen to him. Today it is Ukraine, but tomorrow it could just as easily be  NATO countries.

Many of us are standing by watching, and are wondering why no other countries will intervene and help Ukraine fight this fight. Well many people believe it is simply because Ukraine is not a member of NATO.

So what is NATO? NATO stands for "North Atlantic Treaty Organization". There are 30 member countries in NATO, including Albania, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Montenegro, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Turkey, United Kingdom, and the United States of America.

Some of the most powerful countries in the world, such as the United States and the United Kingdom, are a part of NATO. These 30 countries altogether have enough power to defeat Russia in Ukraine, so why won't they do it?

Everybody says if Ukraine were a NATO member, NATO would have to help them with military forces, because Article 5 of NATO states "An attack on one NATO member is an attack on all". NATO is not helping Ukraine, but the reason for this is not because Ukraine isn't a part of NATO, it's because nobody is legally obligated to, and nobody wants to start World War III earlier than they have to.

Despite popular belief "An attack on one is an attack on all" does not really mean that NATO countries have to help defend each other. In fact, all it means is that other NATO countries by law have to condemn the attack, and they may choose to respond however they wish. They could choose to donate supplies and funds similarly to how they are treating Ukraine, and never really put boots on the ground. According to NATO, this kind of support would still be acceptable, even if Ukraine were a NATO country. Every NATO country can choose to respond to an attack on a fellow member in whatever way they see fit. No NATO countries have to help fight another NATO country's war if they don't want to.

In fact, the main reason why nobody is getting involved in the Russia-Ukraine war, is because Russia has an abundance of Nuclear weapons, and they have already threatened to make use of them. Many countries, including but not limited to NATO countries also have Nuclear Weapons, but chose not to use them because they are extremely dangerous and inhumane. The USA and Russia have more nuclear weapons than any other two countries in the world. When Nuclear weapons are fired, they release gigantic amounts of radiation, destroying vast amounts of land (Entire cities and small countries) and spreading radiation poisoning much further. Radiation exposure can cause cancers, extreme burns, loss of limbs, and body mutations, such as the growth of extra arms or legs. Fear of this happening is the main reason why NATO countries will not intervene. Russia could very easily send a Nuclear bomb to Ukraine if a NATO country tried to intervene, they would do it simply out of spite. It is as easy as pushing a button. If this were to happen, an excruciatingly high number of people would die, and because of the radiation, it would make rescue missions to help the victims almost impossible. Right now, the number one goal the NATO alliance is trying to achieve is to help Ukraine evacuate as many people out of Ukraine as possible, because everybody knows it's only a matter of time before Russia will inevitably launch a Chemical or nuclear attack on Ukraine. This is because Russia is losing this war, and Putin is determined to be remembered no matter what. He will not accept the loss of this war.

Russia seems far away from countries like the USA, but in reality, a nuclear bomb can be fired clear across the globe, and reach a far away country like the USA in 30 minutes or less.

As citizens of countries separate from Ukraine, we mustn't believe we are safe simply because we aren't there. Russia has already made it perfectly clear that this is only the beginning, and their true target of this war is the West, meaning the United States of America. In fact, these are especially legitimate claims at this time, being that included in Russia's sanctions on America, is a statement that Russia demands the return of its previous territories in America, including Alaska and a fort located in California. Russia also believes Antarctica is rightfully theirs, since they discovered it.

Why would Russia want Antarctica, a tiny fort in California, and Alaska? These seem like useless places, right? No, wrong. Russia wants these three places, not because they are useful, but because they will turn them into military bases. These military bases would make an attack on the USA more possible, as Russian jets would not have to fly all the way back to Russia's airspace to refuel, and it would take considerably less time for Russian troops to arrive in America if they were stationed somewhere close, like Alaska or California.

Many people aren't taking this seriously, but everybody should be. We must remember this Ukraine War all began because Ukraine once was a territory of Russia too, and Putin decided he wanted it back.

You may say to yourself "The USA is different, we are a NATO member, and we have Nuclear weapons too" but unfortunately, Putin is a very mentally unstable person, psychologists have already studied him and determined that he is living in an alternate reality, where Russia is the all powerful, he has convinced himself this is what the Russian people want, although it is very obviously untrue. He does not comprehend the cost of an attack on a country like the USA, so this definitely should be taken seriously, as it is certainly legitimate.threat. The usage of Nuclear weapons does not scare Putin, he has lost his mind and does not care about his own citizens, or himself. There have been claims that Putin is also dying of cancer, and therefore has an increasingly less fear of his own death as he knows it is soon approaching anyway. This makes an already mentally unstable man such as himself even more reckless. He has decided that since he knows he'll be dying soon anyway, he wants to be remembered by all, and go out with a "bang" so to speak.

That being said, we must all be aware of the precarious situation we are in. Ukraine is not in this battle alone, even though they are currently the only one fighting for the cause. This is the battle for freedom, for democracy, and for our right as human beings to live our lives as we see fit. Ukraine is fighting to have the freedom that we enjoy every day, and so often take for granite, in the USA and in other countries around the world. If we do not act to help the people of Ukraine soon, Russia will not stop there. Putin is a threat to humanity, and to the world.

We must all Stand With Ukraine, because Ukraine is standing up for us, and for all the things that we believe in.
